If you are looking for a chicken season that is versatile, you are in the right place! This is one of my go-to seasoning that has bold flavor and a little zing. There is a little sugar that caramelizes to add a depth of flavor that is out of this world. The best part is that you know exactly what is in the mix, and you have full control on modifying based on your needs.
Having a chicken seasoning premade, and in bulk, makes meal prep a breeze. Which cuts down on the time in the kitchen and more time doing what is important to you!
How to use the chicken spice blend
Once you have your chicken seasoning mixed, you can start using it! It can be used with different cuts of chicken. My personal favorite is chicken wings and chicken legs! In both cases, the general steps are the same.
- Use a paper towel to pat the chicken dry.
- Place chicken in a bowl or plastic bag.
- Add a little oil over chicken and mix to cover.
- Sprinkle seasoning on top of chicken. Rule of thumb is about a teaspoon of seasoning per pound of meat, as a starting point. You can add more seasoning if you want a bolder flavor.
- Cook as needed right away or marinate overnight in the fridge before cooking.
For food safety, discard any seasoning that came in contact with your raw meat.
Can this chicken seasoning be used for other meats?
Absolutely! I use the same seasoning mix with pork. Works really well for seasoning pork ribs, country style ribs, and pulled pork.
What are some spice storage options
I buy most of my spices for my blends in bulk from the store. They come in a plastic jar that can hold roughly 2 cups. When I first started creating my blends, I was storing them in pint mason jars with a air tight lid. It worked really well! Now, I use the jars that have been emptied to store my spice blends and create my own label!
How long will the spice blend last?
The blend will last 6 months if stored properly.
The freshness of the spices used for the blend will influence the shelf life. If fresh at the time of creating the mixture, it will will likely have a longer shelf life.
It is always best to use your best judgement. If a spice blend doesn’t look right, smells or looks off, it’s best to create a new batch.
